The only cure for materialism is the cleansing of the six sense (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind). If the senses are clogged, one's perception is stifled. The more it is stifled, the more contaminated the sense become. This creates disorder in the world, and that is the greatest evil of all.

The only difference between saints and sinners is that every saint has a past while every sinner has a future.

The poem is much more about pure good versus pure evil. Whereas the movie, Beowulf goes to take on this troll who they all perceive as a demon and filthy and ignorant and sadistic, only to discover that that's not actually the case.

The people who died here were victims of one of the cruelest visitations of evil this nation has ever seen, ... But we offer them today not pity but honor, for as much as any soldier who ever fought in any war, they paid the price for our freedom.

The person who is basically evil by nature will always be averse to virtuous deeds. He is always engaged in bad karma.
