Daniel Wroughton Craig was born on March 2, 1968 in Chester, England.
Craig grew up as the son of steelworker Timothy John Wroughton Craig and his wife, art teacher Olivia Williams Craig. After his parents separated, he grew up in an artistic environment alongside his older sister Lea in Liverpool, later in Hoylake, Wirral, with his mother and stepfather Max Blond, a well known artist on the island. At the age of 16 he moved to London where he joined the National Youth Theatre. He received his acting training from 1988 to 1991 at the London art school Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Theatrical performances followed, including at the legendary Old Vic Theatre. His film career began in 1992 with a supporting role in John G. Avildsen’s drama film “In the Glory of the Sun”.
Craig was married to Scottish actress Fiona Loudon from 1992 to 1994. A daughter was born from this marriage in 1992. For the next seven years he was the partner of the German actress Heike Makatsch. He rose to greater prominence in 1996 with a starring role in the nine-part BBC mini-series Our Friends in the North. This was followed by appearances in larger productions such as “Elizabeth” (1998) and “The Trench” (1999), with which he also became internationally known. He then took on supporting roles in commercially successful films such as “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Road to Perdition” alongside Tom Hanks. He was nominated for the Audience Award at the 2004 European Film Awards for his portrayal of a man who falls in love with his girlfriend’s mother in Roger Michell’s The Mother.
In 2004 he celebrated a great commercial success with the British film “Layer Cake”. On October 14, 2005, it was officially announced in London that Craig would be the sixth actor to play the fictional English secret agent “James Bond”, replacing Pierce Brosnan. From 2005 he was in a relationship with the American film producer Satsuki Mitchell. At the beginning of 2006, Daniel Craig was seen in “Munich”, in which Steven Spielberg took on the task of reconstructing the events of September 5, 1972, when Palestinian guerrillas from the group “Black September” attacked the Israeli Olympic team in Munich and caused a bloodbath caused. After Craig had successfully completed the shooting of “James Bond: Casino Royale”, he was in front of the camera for the film adaptation of Philip Pullman’s novel trilogy “His Dark Materials”, the first part of which “The Golden Compass” was released in 2007.
Craig stars as Lucifer, the fallen angel, opposite Ewan McGregor, who portrays British novelist Declan Gunn, in the film adaptation of Glen Duncan’s I, Lucifer. In October 2008, the sequel to “Casino Royale” entitled “Quantum of Solace” was released in cinemas, in which Daniel Craig once again knew how to use his secret agent qualities. His third incarnation of the agent followed in 2012 with “Skyfall”. In 2014 he was in front of the camera alongside Christoph Waltz for the 24th film in the Bond series, “James Bond 007: Spectre”; the film had its world premiere on October 26, 2015. In 2017 he was in front of the camera for the robber comedy “Logan Lucky” by Steven Soderbergh.
