He grew up in Queens, the son of a Polish-Jewish teacher and Hungarian-born photojournalist Sylvia Plachy. Adrien Brody dreamed of becoming an actor from an early age. His efforts were already aimed at this goal when he was twelve years old. In New York City, he attended high school for the performing arts and then the American Academy of Dramatic Art.
