George Timothy Clooney was born on May 6, 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky, the son of news anchor Nicholas Joseph Clooney and former beauty queen Nina Bruce Warren.
He grew up with his older sister Adelia in Kentucky and Ohio. His interest in film and television was awakened in his school days by his father. He first started working as a journalist. After graduating from high school, he studied history and politics at Northern Kentucky University. It was his cousin Miguel Ferrer who got him a small supporting role in a feature film. Convinced of acting, Clooney moved to Los Angeles in 1982 and attended drama school there. At first everything but success awaited him here. Clooney received neither film roles nor jobs. George Clooney received the “Golden Globe Award” and the “Oscar” for his performance. Between 2006 and 2014 he represented the coffee company Nespresso in numerous commercials. In 2007’s “The Good German,” Clooney played an American reporter in post-WWII Berlin. Steven Soderbergh directed the drama in the style of 1940s film noir.
He also directed and produced “A Tempting Game” (2008). Aside from acting, Clooney became one of the most committed activists in America. In 2008 he became a United Nations Messenger of Peace. He was involved in the Darfur conflict; traveled to Sudan in 2006 and shot a film there with his father to draw attention to the dramatic situation of the refugees. Alongside Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, he became a supporter of the Not on Our Watch organization. He was also responsible for the campaign “America: A Tribute to Heroes” for the victims of 9/11 and organized the telethon “Hope for Haiti Now”. On March 16, 2012, he was arrested during a protest in front of the Sudanese embassy in Washington D.C. temporarily arrested. In 2010 he was in front of the camera for “The American”, directed by Anton Corbijn. In 2013 he was awarded an Oscar for producing the film “Argo”.
He starred opposite Sandra Bullock in the 2013 3D space thriller ‘Gravity’ directed by Alfonso Cuarón; In 2014, the film won several awards, including seven Oscars. In April 2014 he became engaged to lawyer Amal Alamuddin and on September 27, 2014 the couple married in Venice. In 2017 he wrote, directed and produced the crime drama “Suburbicon”.
