The American actress came to film and television as a celebrated Broadway star, where she successfully continued her career. Glenn Close was born on March 19, 1947 in Greenwich, Connecticut.

At the age of nine her parents moved to the Belgian Congo and she grew up with her grandmother. Later she attended a Swiss boarding school and a high school for girls. Glenn Close gained her first stage experience in the theater group “Fingernails” at her school. After graduating from school, she went to the College Of William And Mary, where she studied drama and anthropology. While still in her senior year of college, she was cast in three plays at Broadway’s Phoenix Theater. Glenn Close quickly established himself there and appeared in many successful productions. In 1980, she received her first Tony Award nomination for her performance in the Broadway musical Barnum. Two years later, she received a Tony Award for her performance in The Real Thing. Glenn Close received a second Tony for her role in Death and the Maiden and a third for Sunset Boulevard.

In 1982 she appeared in her first feature film. She starred in Garp and How He Saw the World and immediately earned her first Oscar nomination. Four more nominations followed: in 1983 as “Best Supporting Actress” in “The Great Frustration”, in 1984 as “Best Supporting Actress” in “The Unbending One”, in 1987 as “Best Actress” in “A Fateful Affair” and in 1988 as “Best Actress” in “Dangerous Liaisons”. When she starred in “A Fateful Affair” in 1987, she made it to global stardom. She played “Alex Forrest” in this film, a role that was judged to be one of the most incisive female roles of the 1980s. In this film, Glenn Close transformed her image from the cool, distant woman to the erotic seductress. Her versatility brought her a role in Stephen Frears’ hit film “Dangerous Liaisons”. In 1993 she had one of her greatest successes in the collaboration with producer Bernd Eichinger in the film “Das Geisterhaus”.

Glenn Close celebrated two more successes in 1996 when she played the first lady in the humorous science fiction film “Mars Attacks!” starred alongside Jack Nicholson and in the role of “Cruella DeVil” in “101 Dalmatians”, which was continued with Glenn Close under the title “102 Dalmatians” in 2000. In addition to receiving numerous awards for her work on stage and film, Close has also received numerous television awards. In 1995 she received an Emmy for her performance in “Serving In Silence”. As with other works, she was active as an executive producer. Among other things, she appeared as a co-producer for the documentary “Do You Mean There Are Still Real Cowboys?” and executive producer on the television drama Broken Hearts, Broken Home.

Glenn Close has been married to entrepreneur David Shaw for the third time since 2006.
