Pierce Brosnan became a film star with the personification of the British agent “James Bond”, whom he played as the fifth actor in four films from 1994 to 2002. Brosnan grew up with his grandparents near Dublin. He lived there until he was eleven, when he moved to London to live with his mother. It was here that Brosnan found his desire to become an actor, and after school he attended the London Dramatic Center until 1976. He also completed his acting studies there. Brosnan didn’t have to look far for offers. Tennessee Williams discovered his talent and hired him for the theater. He acted in numerous classical plays with much success. In 1977, Pierce Brosnan married his longtime partner Cassandra Harris, who brought two children into the marriage. Together they became parents of a son.

After more successful years in the theater, Brosnan starred in his 1981 television premiere, The Manions of America. In this series, attention was also paid to the Irishman outside the borders. The very next year, in 1982, Pierce Brosnan began filming the American hit series “Remington Steele”. Pierce Brosnan embodied the smart private detective “Mr. Steele” in 94 episodes and made the series a worldwide bestseller and a star. In 1988 he stood in front of the camera for the TV series “Noble-House”, in which he played the elegant leading actor as “Pan”. In 1989, the TV series “Around the World in 80 Days” followed. In 1991 his young wife died of cancer. Brosnan then retired from public life for some time and lived in Ireland again.

Here he established a foundation for cancer research. In the following years he became a star with films such as “The Fourth Protocol”, “The Deceiver” and “Mr. Johnson”. In 1992 and 1993 he had commercial success with “The Lawnmower Man” and the comedy “Mrs. Doubtfire”, alongside Robin Williams. In 1994, after much speculation, Brosnan was appointed as the fifth “James Bond 007” actor for the title “Golden Eye”. As a smart Brit, he gave the British agent a softer and more modern image. This was followed in 1997 by “Tomorrow Never Dies” as the 17th Bond film, which was also the most successful in the agent’s history. In 1999, The World Is Not Enough, the third Bond film starring Brosnan, hit the cinemas. Meanwhile, he co-starred with Jamie Lee Curtis in 2000’s The Tailor of Panama.

On August 4, 2001, Pierce Brosnan married his longtime partner, journalist Keely Shaye Smith, in Ireland. Together they became parents of two children. In 2002 the fourth Bond film starring Pierce Brosnan was released in cinemas – titled “Die Another Day”. His contract was not extended further. In 2004 he was in front of the cinema camera for “After the Sunset” and “Laws of “Attraction”. Productions such as “The One Second Film”, “The Topkapi Affair” and “Seraphim Falls” followed in 2006, but they received little attention. Brosnan was honored with a special prize for his environmental commitment at the “Golden Camera” awards ceremony in 2007. In 2008 he starred with Meryl Streep in the film adaptation of the ABBA musical “Mamma Mia!”. In 2010 he stood for “Percy Jackson”, ” The Ghost Writer” and “Remember Me” in front of the camera.
