How do you play 5-Minute Dungeon?

The game goal

Your task is to be the first to catch all five monsters.

The game preparation

First you prepare your heroes by each of you choosing one, placing it in front of you and reading the special ability to everyone. Then take the corresponding hero deck, shuffle the cards and place them face down as a draw pile on the hero board.

You can choose from:

  • Sorceress & Mage (arcane, secret knowledge – scrolls)
  • Nanya & Thief (stealth, deception, acrobatics – jumps)
  • Barbarian & Gladiator (brutal violence – swords)
  • Huntress & Ranger (Ranged Weapons – Arrows)
  • Paladin & Valkyrie (Armored Defenders – Shields)
  • Depending on the number of players, each player takes 3 to 5 cards from the deck.

Then you prepare the boss tableau, which is used for the dungeon with 3 levels of difficulty. According to the 5-Minute Dungeon game rules, this tableau comes into your midst and is equipped with the dungeon and quest cards. Again depending on the number of players, you can see on the back how many cards you need. Shuffle these, place them face down on the boss board and set aside all other cards.

The gameplay

You play together against the game – you have to defeat every card in the stack to make your way to the boss to give him something to do as well. You always have 5 minutes and three ways to choose from. There is a free app for Android and iOS, but in principle you can use any other stopwatch.

So you can try your luck with the hero cards by using the required resources that the dungeon cards show. Another possibility is to play the action cards. This is the case when the dungeon maps have text. The third option offers your hero special ability of the hero board. To do this, place 3 cards from your hand face up on the discard pile and talk to the other players. Tell them what ability is being used. However, this only works if you still have 3 cards in your hand. Also pay attention to the conditions, such as the type that can be attacked.

When you have played cards, you can refill the same number from the draw pile, so you always have a full hand deck. If the draw pile is empty, only luck helps to continue.

End of game – win or lose

This is how you fight your way through dungeon after dungeon until you hopefully arrive at the dungeon overlord. At this point it is decided whether you win or lose. Before starting a new dungeon you have to build it up again, you can continue with more or fewer players and/or use other hero tableaus.

However, it is also possible that your hero skills are not sufficient and you will be routed by the bosses – you will lose the game. This can happen if you run out of time, run out of cards, or are unable to play required symbols, hero abilities, or action cards.

Benefits of 5 Minute Dungeon

  • Very simple game rules
  • Extremely high fun factor
  • Increasing difficulty
  • Heroes can be changed in between
  • Suitable for larger groups

The game preparation

The game setup is the same as in the base game with three small changes in the 5-Minute Dungeon game rules:

  • Each hero deck is expanded with the two new action cards
  • Each of the six heroes now has one. This is placed next to each other with the colored side facing up.
  • You replace the five dungeon maps with five “The Curse of the Overlord” boss maps. From the boss tableau you can see how many dungeon maps you need to add (depending on your number of players and the level of difficulty).

The gameplay

Each hero that you don’t travel with gives you their artifacts, which you lay out with the colored side up when you enter a dungeon. You can use all of them, but only once per dungeon.

The trick with the expansion is that each boss gets his own cards, which makes your victory march more difficult because he tries to rout you with mini-bosses, events and curses.

Curses are active as soon as they come into play and will subjugate you until then. If you break the rules of the curse, you lose your hand of cards and have to try to reverse the curse – but that’s not always possible.

With the new events, you can or must, for example, discard resource cards, use artifacts again or discard cards from your hand.

On the whole, however, the usual gameplay remains the same.

Curse of the Overlord Benefits

  • new hero class
  • smaller, new rules
  • more quests and artifacts
  • slightly higher level of difficulty

Both parts are reasonably priced for the fun they bring to your hero groups.

Preparation of the dungeon

This is how you play the cooperative board game

“Harry Potter: Battle for Hogwarts” comes with seven different games, which are divided into levels of difficulty, so to speak. Here we explain the rules for the first game, which is right for you if you are new to deck building games.

Get the game started

In the instructions you will find the exact structure of the game starting with placing the game board in your center. Place the game material on it and around it:

  • 1 hero board per player:in
  • 8 Power of Evil tokens
  • 35 Attack Tokens
  • 25 influence tokens
  • 2 location cards
  • 10 dark arts
  • 3 villains
  • 30 Hogwarts Cards

Train overviews and heroes depending on your number of players
In the first game there is always only one active villain.

Each of you chooses a magic hero and receives the following game components:

  • hero board
  • train overview map
  • 10 action cards
  • strength marker

You place the strength marker on the 10 of your hero board. Shuffle the action cards and place them next to your hero board.

Gameplay

The player whose turn it is takes his turn, which always consists of four steps:

Reveal and execute the top Dark Arts card
Perform action of active villain
Reveal and implement the top of your own action cards
all check if one of the locations with four power of evil markers has been captured
The second and third steps are particularly exciting, as this is where most of the action happens. Your action cards bring you resources that you need in the battle for Hogwarts. This is how you can summon allies or gain influence tokens. The latter give you the opportunity to exchange them for Hogwarts tickets. When you get attack tokens, you can use them to rout bad guys.

Unlike some other games, you cannot keep actions and resources to plan your next turn. You are in battle and must immediately use whatever is available to you by chance!

To drive away the bad guys, you have to attack them. If you muster enough strength, they take damage (indicated by the attack tokens). Look closely, because you will find his life points on the cards, which you can use the markers to cut out. As soon as you have covered a villain with the corresponding number of markers, he is considered defeated. Each defeated villain triggers an effect as a reward that you can and should use immediately.

This is how you play round after round. At the end of your turn you fill up your Hogwarts and action cards and one of your fellow players can try their luck.

Everything comes to an end

If a location gains four evil power tokens, it is lost. If you lose all locations in this way, the battle for Hogwarts is lost. If you defeat all villains successfully, you win back your Hogwarts.

Here’s why we like Kosmos’ ‘Battle for Hogwarts’

  • lovingly designed
  • easy game rules
  • Different levels of difficulty so that it stays exciting for longer
  • ideal for the whole family
  • cooperative game: you lose or win together
  • ideal for Harry Potter fans
  • multiple expansions available long after the base game’s release

Our conclusion on “Harry Potter: Battle for Hogwarts”

In our opinion, those of you who call themselves “Happy Potter fans” can’t avoid this game. Whether you just read and loved the books or the movies, the battle for Hogwarts was filled with emotion for all of us. So it’s no wonder that some people want to throw themselves into battle and show the necessary respect to “their” beloved school of magic.

What we particularly like about the implementation of “Harry Potter: The Battle of Hogwarts” is that the value was placed on cohesion. Instead of all playing against each other, you have to fight the villains together – just like it was and is in the story of friendship and loyalty. We also find it positive that different levels of difficulty can be played, so that everyone with little to a lot of deck building experience gets their money’s worth.

Even if the game is a bit older, there are still expansions that promise you new fun. It’s best to get an idea for yourself and go into battle!

Place the rest of the game materials within easy reach of the game board. Then shuffle the playing cards according to their suits and make two piles out of them. As you can see, there are two levels of difficulty – choose one and turn it face down so that it is face down.

If you want to play “team against team”, only one thing changes during the preparation: You split into two teams, for which each starts with a hippopotamus. The bastard lands next to the game board.

Variant “Together against the bastard”

Gameplay

You play clockwise and one player at a time takes turns.

When it is your turn, see what task you get:

  • Explain, draw, panomime
  • Action!
  • joker

You draw a card and, depending on which field you are on, carry out the task in the given way. The other players try to guess the term. You have 45 seconds to do this.

If you make it within this time, you move the hippopotamus according to the blue number on the card. If you don’t make it, you move the bastard by the number of red spaces.

Playing

As soon as the bastard or hippopotamus has managed to circle the roller coaster, the game is over. Then either you or the bastard won.

“Team vs. Team” variant

Gameplay

Your teams take turns playing against each other. Within the teams you determine your own order. Otherwise not much changes to the already known rules.

The only difference: If you mess up a task, the opposing team gets the points and their figure.

Playing

The team that crosses the finish line first finishes and wins the game.

Summary of the new edition

Quick start Guide

Rules of the game in brief

Preparation

Prepare the game board and choose a hippopotamus figure. Place them on the colored starting space and the bastard on the pink starting space. Put the rest of the game materials within reach. Shuffle the playing cards into two piles according to their suits and choose the level of difficulty. You turn this downwards.

Gameplay

In clockwise order, one after the other plays a turn. Whoever has the deer chooses to give up the field on which the figure is standing. The other players try to guess it in 45 seconds.
You have 45 seconds to do this.

Done / not done

If you make it, you move your hippopotamus according to the blue number on the map. If you don’t make it, you move the bastard by the number of red spaces.

  • 9 reward cards
  • 30 hostage cards
  • 1 game instructions

Get the game started

You lay out the game board and supplies ready – it’s best to look at the instructions, which explain step by step how to set up the game correctly. You can also choose a favorite hero and put together your character. When choosing heroes, we encourage you to talk about them together, as each one has their own special skills that make them “more valuable” at different points in the game. At this point, WoW connoisseurs naturally have a small advantage, but if you don’t know your way around, simply read the texts on the cards.

Gameplay

Also, if you are a team against the Lich King and his army, you will take your turns one after the other:

  • perform actions
  • Draw 2 hero cards
  • Spawn 3 ghouls
  • Activate 4 monstrosities

The first two phases are those of the heroes, the next two are those of the villains.

The actions consist, for example, of moving, fighting, questing, resting or others that you can also carry out several times. You have a total of four opportunities to start your turn – but you don’t have to use all four. Here, too, you should choose wisely, because your actions can already decide whether a quest is successful or defeated and can harm or help you accordingly.

Then you draw the top two hero cards, whose actions you also have to carry out – and you also have to think about which next step will help your team best.

You don’t have time to catch your breath, because immediately afterwards it’s the turn of the villains to start their counterattack. So the ghouls appear through dark magic, which can even spread to a real flood of monsters.

In the fourth phase, the monsters attack you, but you attack them too. The hot phase of the fight begins! Proceed judiciously, because failure quickly leads to demotivation of the heroes and the creatures of darkness gain the upper hand.

In this way, you embark on an adventure to conquer Icecrown Citadel in order to smack the Lich King in the head so badly that he finally falls from his throne. But because he has no interest in it, he sets countless monsters on his neck, which he has hidden all over his kingdom. There are three missions to complete before you can approach the Lich King.

But don’t worry! You are brave heroes who can take on the ghouls and other monsters. With single critters your task is certainly a bit easier, but don’t let that discourage you if you are faced with a horde of ghouls. If you give up, the land is lost – you can see this by looking at the game’s despair marker. The further he advances, the more hopeless your fight is.

The scourge cards are your “enemy”, so to speak, because they flush the monsters into the country. The further you get in the game, the more monsters will appear because the Lich King knows you are getting closer. Then there are the The Scourge Rises cards, the number of which depends on your difficulty level – with them the power of the Lich King increases, making your task even more difficult, but also more exciting.

So that the fight is not completely hopeless, you can set so-called strongholds in the course of the game, which allow you to “fast travel” so to speak, in order to be faster in places where Luzie is going off.

At some point the monsters will fight back, which means one point of damage per opponent. If you roll well, you get shields for defense. By drawing the right cards from your hand, you can strengthen your defense or attack even more or heal yourself.

As is usual in such games, you shouldn’t go wild and “lash out” but use certain tactics. This is especially true when completing your quests, because they give you important rewards. What is practical here is that you can use your hand cards according to the quest card specifications, but they are not discarded afterwards. So choose wisely throughout the game so you don’t face the quest boss too weak.

Everything comes to an end

When the despair marker reaches its end, your mission is lost. You have won if you were able to complete your three quests and the Icecrown Citadel quest. You’re lucky, because in the latter case you were able to defeat the Lich King!

Why We Love Z-Man Games’ World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

  • cooperative game: win or lose together
  • lovingly and detailed designed
  • comparatively simple rules of the game
  • not only suitable for sworn WoW fans
  • tactical action required
  • different levels of difficulty

Our take on World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

At first glance, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King appears to come with a steep price tag, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. Not only long game rounds with up to five players await you, but also a lot of excitement and puzzles. Despite the possibilities, the developers have not agreed to any overly complex rules, so that even players who are new to this genre can enjoy it.

We also think it’s really good that you don’t need any knowledge of WoW to immerse yourself in the gameplay. You just have to be interested in the game mechanics and the theme – this way both WoW fans and those who haven’t played the game that much come together.

The game with the hexa plans: “Take it easy” by Ravensburger

Are you looking for a tactical game, but it doesn’t have to be brand new on the market? Then simply check out “Take it easy” from Ravensburger, because the game has been on the market for over 15 years and is still as fun as the first day.

Game information on “Take it easy” from Ravensburger

Short description

“In this game for tinkerers, you shouldn’t let your fellow players fool you. Only those who lay continuous rows of colors from one side to the other can collect the highest number of points and triumph. “Take it easy!” is the name of the game. However, if a wrong tile nullifies a full suit row just short of the saving goal, it’s good to remember the game name. Because then it is important to easily put up with the loss of points and start a new row: new game, new strategy, new luck. The placement game is suitable for inventors from the age of 10 and is also an exciting task on its own! The aim is to achieve as many points as possible from round to round.” Source: Ravensburger

Goal of the game

In the placement game for the whole family, your goal is to get the most points. You get points by positioning the color cards on your playing field. However, that sounds easier than it is.

Number of players, age and duration

  • 1 to 6 players
  • from 10 years on
  • around 45 minutes

Player type

How “Take it easy” works

Get the game started

Each of the players in your turn receive the same starting conditions:

  • a game plan
  • 27 cards in one suit

Designate one of yourselves as the “Opener”. He places his cards, color side down, next to his game board and shuffles them.

The rest of you do the same, only you discard the cards suit-side up and don’t shuffle. However, it makes sense for you to sort your cards.

After that, you can start with a game of “Take it easy”!

Gameplay

Your “opener” begins the game by turning over one of his face-down cards and naming the numbers he finds on the card. He places the card on his game board while the rest of you try to find this card in your deck to keep it with you.

Then the opener lays out another card and you look for suitable cards as round after round continues.

You have to make sure that you place the cards in such a way that everyone arranges the numbers correctly – after that you can’t change the position. As the game progresses, the game boards become tight, which is why you always have to think carefully about where you place your cards and which rows you destroy.

The game is decided after 19 rounds at the latest – then you settle accounts and start a new round with a new opener.

Everything comes to an end

In each round you score continuous color rows. Should there be an interruption, there are 6 points. You play four rounds in total.

After the fourth round, you add up your points – whoever has the most wins.

Our conclusion on “Take it easy” from Ravensburger

“Take it easy” is not a game for you if you leave something to chance and just have friends in the game. In order to win, you need a good portion of tactical skill in order to be able to rake in the most points in the end. Those of you who are interested in real brain teasers will get gaming satisfaction from this. It is particularly well suited for larger groups, making it perfect for a game night.

All in all, this tactical game is incredibly fun if you enjoy tactical games. The highlight is that you can also play it alone, so you don’t need a large group to pass the time. We think that’s great!

Rules of the game in brief

Take it easy quick start guide

Preparation

Each player receives his game material. One of your rounds is designated the “Opener”, who places his cards, suit-side down, next to his game board and shuffles them. The others discard their cards suit-side up and don’t shuffle, but optionally sort them.

Opener’s first move

The opener turns one of his face-down cards over, names their numbers, and places it on his game board. The others look for this card in their deck to keep it with them. In this way, you proceed round by round in a clockwise direction.

Discard cards

Place the cards so that you arrange the numbers correctly. As the game progresses, the game plans become tight, which is why you should proceed tactically.

Invoice

After each of the 19 rounds you calculate your points. A broken row gives only 6 points.

Playing

After the fourth round, you add up your points – whoever has the most wins.

Crows are commonly known to be not only very clever, but also mischievous. Think of Canuck, a cheeky fowl who allegedly stole a knife from a crime scene in 2016 and became famous as a result. Less kleptomaniac, but just as well armed is the crow in the indie adventure Death’s Door from developer Acid Nerve.

As a little crow, we’ve chopped our way around numerous times and we’ll tell you what the cute Death Omen is capable of and how much fun it is to harvest souls.

Omen of death

Well, in the game we wield a sword, not a knife like Canuck. But we’re not a normal crow, after all. We are a reaper who makes a living by collecting souls.

More specifically, we work for the Harvest Commission, a company in a gray limbo in the middle of nowhere. From here countless doors lead to strange places where the souls are. We do not learn whether the places belong to the same world or to different worlds. But probably that doesn’t have to interest us as a small employee crow. The main thing is that we harvest souls. And so begins the next day on the hamster wheel: earn souls to power doors that in turn lead to new souls.

Once a reaper steps through one of these doors, he begins to age and may even die. A nice employee of the company makes that clear to us even before our first real mission – including a dramatic camera setting. He also asks us not to walk away, as he doesn’t want the resulting paperwork. Well, he’ll be surprised.

But then we can start with our mission! First we get the basic controls in a kind of tutorial. Then we can use what we have learned directly in our first boss fight against a demonic plant. Depending on how well we do it, the fight goes quite quickly and doesn’t present us with any major problems. With this big soul we can now afford something really nice and go on vacation first, right?

How won

… so melted. Before we can do anything with our reward, an elderly crow knocks us unconscious. When we wake up again, we’re sitting in front of a white portal, devastated and without any reward. Through this we get to an old, abandoned graveyard, where a lot of mysterious creatures cavort, from fluffy but vicious vampire bats to strange beings with towers instead of skulls.

After combing the area, we suddenly encounter the crow that stole from us. It turns out that she is also a reaper and has been trying to complete her quest for an unknown amount of time. For this, she wanted to use our hard-won soul to energize and open the door behind which her soul sits. But that wasn’t enough and so both the old reaper and we are in trouble. Because the rules of the commission say: Only when the soul has been brought back is an order considered completed and one can return home.

If we don’t manage to do this, we cannot stop our aging process and will eventually die. And that doesn’t really seem to be intended for Reaper Crows. But the way to our goal is anything but easy: We have to collect three very powerful souls from extravagant and very old creatures. Each of them rules their own realm, which is connected to the graveyard. Only these souls have enough power to open the door of death. The giant soul that we covet is supposedly hiding behind it. But what else is waiting for intruders behind the mysterious gate, not even the old crow can tell us. But since we have no other choice, we must go to save ourselves and the old reaper. In doing so, we quickly find out based on growing evidence that the superiors in the harvest commission could somehow be involved in the incidents.

Crow with knife

Our combat skills are quite clear at the beginning. We have a sword smash, a heavy slash, an arrow shot, and a dodge roll. Our bow also only has four shots, which we can fill up by using melee skills. All that doesn’t necessarily sound like a lot of fighting power. So in order for us to stand a chance against all the strange beings, we need to improve – not just in terms of gameplay.

If we kill an opponent, we get soul energy with which we can improve the properties of our nameless crow. So we can put points into strength to hit harder or spend them on skill to dodge more often and faster. The upgrades become more expensive with higher levels and we only get additional abilities like the fire spell after certain boss fights.

Incidentally, we don’t just have to be satisfied with the sword. During the game we collect additional weapons such as double daggers or an umbrella. The latter can be found at the beginning of the game in the Hall of Doors. This hall is our hub from which we can travel to each level. The umbrella is not particularly good, it does less damage and is also slower than the normal sword. We look pretty chic with it.

There are other things in Death’s Door that are of little use but look nice. For example, some collectible items fall into the “Shiny” category. We can hoard them to decorate our desk in the Commission and unlock achievements. Crystals, on the other hand, are very useful. If we find enough of them, we can increase the number of our shots or improve our life bar. And our crow urgently needs more life. In the first fights, the dramatic death screen greets us after just a few hits.

Death greets you every day

But don’t worry, we don’t lose soul energy or collected items when we die. We’ll just get back on at the nearest reaper door. Depending on how far the door is from where we died, this can still get frustrating. Most enemies respawn after we die and we have to fight them again to finally progress. Fortunately, bosses and most arena fights are an exception. We stumble over the latter from time to time and can only continue when all the waves of monsters that are pouring in on us have been defeated.

While Death’s Door looks cute with the stylized art and crow, we mustn’t let that fool us. The game is becoming increasingly difficult and demands a lot from us. The boss fights in particular are tough. As in other games with challenging bosses, we have to learn attack patterns and hone our reflexes. Every now and then we also have to deal with performance drops and frame drops, which can even make boss fights more difficult at times.

Breather

Between the many fights, our brain cells are challenged with puzzles again and again. These are usually not particularly difficult, but represent a pleasant change. For example, in the bathroom of the ceramic villa, we have to pay attention to the reflections on the floor. We only see vases in the reflection, which we can of course also smash. Once we’ve done that, a hidden door opens to the next room.

Anyone who likes secrets can also look forward to it. Some parts of the game world are only accessible through hidden paths and want to be explored. With new skills like the fire magic, we can also explore previously undiscovered areas of the “old” areas. So it certainly pays off to come back every now and then.

Only ceramics in the head

Most of the game follows a proven principle: we fight and puzzle our way through the area to the boss, unlock new abilities and make our way to the next big enemy. But the formula is implemented so well that you never get bored. Each realm lures with coherent environments and thematically appropriate opponents. There are also NPCs that are not only memorable for their strange design.

For example, we remember a gravedigger in a cemetery because of its tragic history. All he really wants is for his unnaturally long life to end. We’re supposed to help him, but we’re still too weak for that. So he sighs in disappointment and asks us to come back as soon as we are stronger. Other characters, on the other hand, lighten up the gloomy atmosphere. The urn witch’s property is inhabited by strange beings whose skulls have been replaced with pottery. One of the worst hits was a gentleman who now has a soup pot for a head.

Death’s Door is set in an intriguing world that looks incredibly cute despite the sometimes dark themes. Most battles and puzzles play smoothly, but performance drops at certain points dampen the gaming experience noticeably. The developer Acid Nerve still has to make improvements here so that the indie adventure is not only beautiful, but also technically top-notch.

By the way, the crow Canuck has been missing since 2019. We suspect she was promoted to reaper. She would have the talent.

What do you do in deaths door?

Death’s Door on Steam. Reaping souls of the dead and punching a clock might get monotonous but it’s honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death – where creatures grow far past their expiry.

How hard is death’s door?

Unfortunately, the soul disappears behind a locked door, and it’s up to the crow to travel around the world to take down beings who have remained alive despite their expiration date passing. Death’s Door is difficult to master, so there are bound to be a few mistakes players will make along the way.

How do I open death’s door?

How to Find the Door Code in Death’s Door. When reading the Bad Urges Text Datapoint, found on top of a crate among some rubble in the northeast corner of the room, you’ll discover a code. This code, 7482, can be used to unlock the door via the nearby terminal.

When can I play death’s door?

Death’s Door – State of Play Oct 2021 Trailer | PS5, PS4.

Is death’s Door open world?

Death’s Door features a semi-linear open world, wherein the path you take is mostly decided in advance, even though it feels like you’re discovering it for yourself.

What is the best weapon in death’s door?

The Reaper’s Greatsword is the most powerful weapon in the game, and likely the last one player will find. It’s perfect for taking out late-game enemies, and even surpasses the powerful Thunder Hammer.

I have to make this short, because I want to get on with the game quickly: If you are fond of turn-based tactics, like role-playing games and like to make decisions between battles in story sequences from comic panels that significantly influence the further course or your party, then you should stop reading at this point and buy Wildermyth on Steam.

I really don’t need to say more, do I? Ok, it’s my job after all, so here are a few bars more: I think Wildermyth is my discovery of the year. Anyone who knows me a little can probably already see why I love the game so much from the Steam description of the game, which loosely reads:

“In Wildermyth, you follow the heroes through their entire careers. From their early forking days to the peak of their careers, and also into old age and memory. It’s a party-based, procedural, story-telling RPG in which tactical combat and Story choices change your world and character roster.”

A game like a checklist of my favorite things

And yes, this couldn’t be truer – and more “Alex” -. There are five campaigns with their own story and threat. It almost always starts with a group of normal people who find themselves in a threatening situation and get caught up in a fight from which they emerge as warriors, archers or mystics.

While the overall storyline of each campaign is more or less fixed, both the characters, the maps your hero company moves across, and various events are procedurally generated. Both your decisions in various events and your strategy to achieve the goal – in the first campaign, for example, defeating the ruler of the Gorgons before the entire country is flooded – and your performance in the battles shape the further course.

The stories are always written with a lot of swing and humor, but in the end it’s your contribution that sticks. The stories you tell along with your characters are the most adventurous and the ones you love the most. The sparkling stone that your archer would have been better off not picking up. A mutation that you can let happen or fight. A creature that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence and offers you help… you’re often in trouble as to which of the two or three decisions is the right one, and so you continue to write the story a bit.

Your warrior and your mystic are a couple? What happens when one of them is about to take a killing blow? Will the significant other throw themselves in the sword’s path and risk permanent maiming? Or does the target of the attack take a few enemies with it? You are always very close to these events, often both beneficiaries and victims in a personal union and all the more rooted for the characters. It even goes so far as to start making up stories about individual looted pieces of gear that explain why one character should have them and not the other.

Indie charm in a classic turn-based strategy guise

What else? Oh yes, graphically this is insanely great. Of course, probably not everyone likes the look, which only continues its story in comic book-like still images with text bubbles. I personally love them. The procedurally generated battlefields are reminiscent of Paper Mario with their pop-up book aesthetics, even if the battle itself is very classic, brisk round tactics without much action point calculation.

Nevertheless, there are one or the other peculiarity here, which mainly affects the magic system of the mystics. With the Interfuse skill, they can mix their life energy with environmental objects and level inventory. Borrow the fire of a furnace to hurl it at enemies, explode an oak cabinet in a shower of shards, or let tendrils sprout from plants that hold your enemies in place. You can also create a line of sight through interfusion, for example to look behind walls and into rooms. An exciting system that brings a lot of flexibility to the fight.

Otherwise, it’s still nice that adjacent combatants increase the defense, but flanking is still useful because it has a 100 percent hit chance. It is also very attractive that the map, which is divided into square fields, is not played on quite so statically. With a spear, for example, you have the luxury of being able to strike from a distance. I also really liked the character progression. It is wonderfully simple, but still allows you to create clearly different builds.

The Course of Life

Strictly speaking, the skills are not level-bound. With each ascent, you don’t always choose from the same skills, but get a choice of three different ones, from which you choose one. There’s really cool and flexible passive and active stuff in there. For example, that the walling bonus for adjacent party members is also extended to objects that the mystic is interfused with, or that warriors always go into a kind of Overwatch mode at the end of a round that automatically attacks approaching enemies. Over time, the characters become their own little heroes, because new artefacts or pieces of armor give them even more profile.

This is especially cool because while your characters can age and die, those who survive a campaign will go down in history as legends and can show up on the map in subsequent sessions as a potentially hireable party member. It’s like a nice reunion because you associate nice, exciting and sometimes melancholic memories with these computer people. And if you haven’t had enough after the five story campaigns, you can play a three or five chapter campaign that consists only of procedural events or do the same again with “legacy” characters who have survived the previous campaigns. The title is also playable in online and local co-op. But I haven’t been able to do that yet.

The fabulous Wildermyth has many unique mechanics and features that you need to know and understand in order to be successful in the game. We’ll give you a hand.

Your group of heroes in Wildermyth starts their adventure young and fresh, but numerous battles, happy and sad experiences and the ravages of time leave deep marks and ensure many big and small changes.

Perhaps your mystic will fall in love with your warrior, the two will marry and retire in old age, while their child will follow in their parents’ footsteps. It is possible that two of your characters will become bitter rivals who will spur each other on and drive each other to new peak performances. Or one of your warriors narrowly escapes death and loses an arm in battle.

What exactly can happen to your group of adventurers, what are the requirements and what should you be prepared for?

Our tester has summarized the most important information for newcomers to help you get the most out of your gaming experience. In our Wildermyth review, you can read why you shouldn’t underestimate the role-playing game because of its graphics.

I don’t want to sugarcoat anything: Wildermyth is one of those games, so I first agreed to a test because I don’t always have the luxury of picking the raisins in my job. I have bills to pay, occasional eating is also quite beneficial to health.

So I installed the game more out of necessity, although I don’t really like the comic book look, the game pieces that appear to be cut out of paper, and the game board battlefields.

Normally in role-playing games, I invest several hours in creating a hero party, fine-tuning everything from attributes to appearance to the smallest detail. In Wildermyth I’m not in the mood for it at all, because here I’m only allowed to adapt three visually poorly detailed figures that don’t look like anything and have such funny properties as “romantic” or “bookworm”.

Faces, hair, body shape, gender and sexuality, personality traits are all customizable, but I leave it to chance, assuming the game isn’t for me anyway. I start my adventure with three farmers that I don’t care about or know anything about. And so begins the first of five story campaigns – 25 hours later I’m convinced that Wildermyth is one of the best role-playing games I’ve ever had the privilege of testing.

Wildermyth – Test: Conclusion

Wildermyth took me by surprise. Not because I couldn’t have known that I would fall for this game. But primarily because I had never heard of it until recently. With this combination of ingredients, it didn’t even have to do everything particularly well for me to enjoy it for a long time. But the fact that most things are done really, really well inspires me all the more. If you wish XCOM was a little more like a good book, you’ll find a true gem that captivates like few others.

Monster Hunter Rise has been available on PC for a while now, and most recently, players have been able to enjoy a host of new monsters, quests, gear, and more with the new Sunbreak expansion. However, the game is far from over with Sunbreak, as Capcom announced during their Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Digital Event that the first free title update for the title will soon be released.

New update for Monster Hunter Rise will be released tomorrow

Already on August 10th, Title Update 1 will add four fan-favorite monsters, among others. Moonlight Nargacuga, who last appeared in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate in 2013, starts here. This Nargacuga variation can refract the moonlight with its light fur, making it almost invisible. Attentive hunters can only spot the monster through its sparkling red eyes. Players will encounter this monster on the completely redesigned Forbidden Tower. Furthermore, the new Bubbling Bazelgeuse stands in the way of the players here, which poses quite a threat with its explosive scales. Especially since this monster has been known to pop up when you’re not prepared for it.

Alongside these two monsters, Title Update 1 also features the Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos subspecies, which are even more menacing than the originals. In order to keep up with the new monsters, players may need to use the new armor that grants them new abilities.

Also, the anomaly research quest system has been expanded a bit. Players can now earn a five-star rating on these quests while hunting monsters like Lunagaron and Magma Almudron, which are unlocked through the new Anomaly Investigation quests. These offer players “randomly generated quest conditions, such as target monsters and hunting grounds.” The higher the difficulty of the completed quest, the better the rewards earned.

The new quest system also grants hunters new materials that they can use to further upgrade their gear with Quirky Crafting. For example, things like attack power and weapon affinities can be randomized.

In addition to the new content in the update, starting August 18, 2022, new event quests and challenging “Double Threats” will be available each week for players to test their skills. For fashion-loving hunters, the new DLC options for layered armor, hairstyles, music, and much more are also cause for celebration.
