How to play Shinty:
Shinty is also called Camanachd or Lomain and comes from the Scottish Highlands. The Comanachd Association, which can be described as the Shinty umbrella organization, was founded in 1893. However, there are still local rule differences.
Gameplay
The players, with women’s teams and men’s teams, use curved racquets. This attempts to launch the cork ball, which is leather-covered and has a diameter of 6.3 cm, into the opponent’s hail (the goal).
Playing time
The length of the game depends on the number of players. With 12 players per team, it takes a total of 90 minutes. With 6 players per team, the game is played for 30 minutes.
Game rules
There aren’t many rules. The players pass the balls back and forth between themselves and often remain in their positions. As a result, the game direction changes frequently and unexpectedly. You can even use the bat to block an opponent. The ball may also be hit in the air with either side of the caman.
Finally, players wear hard hats and leg guards.
The goalkeeper may also touch and defend the ball with the palm of his hand.
Matchfield
The size of the field is 73 m x 128 (up to 155) m. The long sides of the field are called sidelines, the narrow sides byelines. The most important markings are the center circle, two semi-circles and two semi-circular areas (10 yard areas) in front of the goals.
Also marked is the penalty kick, which is marked by a semicircle with a radius of 4.50 at a distance of 18 meters in front of the goal.
As in football, the goal line is on the edge of the byeline.
Rules
At the beginning, 2 players stand in the center circle and cross their clubs over their heads. The referee throws the ball in the air above them and they duel with their racquets to win the ball. Attackers who enter 10 yards from the ball are offside.
Goal
The goal has a net and is 3.65 m wide and 3 m high, similar to hockey. The regulations stipulate that the crossbar and posts must be painted white and made of metal or wood. Each team tries to score as many goals as possible in the allotted time.
